Good Times in Winter 2002

Mardi Gras on the Seawall

We got to Mardi Gras Twice.  The first weekend, with TMCA, we partied on Shorty then went to the seawall for Dinner and to watch the parade.

This is the TMCA group at Fishtales.  Despite the large crowd the food was very good and the service was attentive.

The parade took its time in coming.   There was not much to do but get silly on the Seawall.

Julie Graham had brought a lovely set of Hooters and we all got to try them on.

Finally the p
arade came. First the dignitaries then the Bands and the Floats. It never ceases to amaze me, how grown and mature members of our species, go absolutely bonkers when they see beads thrown from the floats.

We scramble, shout, wave, entreat, beg, and grovel for these plastic trinkets.  No matter how reserved we may be in our usual settings.  All of a sudden we just go crazy for treasures to hang around our neck.

Here come the bands

Mardi Gras at the Tremont

The next weekend  we were planning to go to Gary's Birthday Party at Bolivar.  But we got a call from Sam P-W at St. Luke's Hospital.  Charlotte had a gall bladder attack and would need surgery that day. They had tickets they could not use to George Mitchell's Annual Mardi Gras Celebration at the Tremont. Could we go in their place?

Of course we could. We went up to Houston and visited Charlotte for a few minutes, picked up the tickets and headed home to get our clothes for the evening.

Sam and Charlotte had planned to meet up with their close friends Paul and Pat Hewitt. We called them and they asked us to join them. We could even change for the evening formalities at their place.

This would be a different scene from groveling on the Seawall. We were going to The Party. A Lifetime Singular Event.

Meet Carrie Minor. She smiled at me and let me take her picture. I knew I would need to get my face painted after we spoke..

She told me where to find the face painter.

Sheyra was in the Street side gallery where
George Mitchell entertained his closest friends.

He was there watching the parade and graciously granted my request for a photo.

Shyra the face painter..

Shyra's Job on me not as elaborate as George's .
