WOW Cruise March 10 2007Marion Herndon , InstigatorThe Wow Cruise started off slowly and built to a crescendo. The day was perfect. Remedy waited for her crew to arrive. Food was stowed and libations were iced down. Ladies and gents (2) climbed aboard and Remedy left the dock at 1:00. At the helm for the first time was Linda Koepsel. She carefully navigated the crowed Kemah channel. Great helmsman ship Linda. The VHF was manned by Nell Giallanza. Instructions on use was given and most of the time, folks could hear us. We arrived at channel marker 2 with a twisted main. After much struggling and help from the winds, that were picking up, we unfurled the main and started our course for Redfish. Linda and Renne' handled the head sails for our tacks. Sally Curran was ready to take over as needed. On the way to Redfish , I saw Lynn Eddleman skillfully handling the helm on Stellar of Course. The gals were doing a great job. Skippers you can relax, first mates were getting lots of practice. Also on the way to Redfish, Winds Will was tacking brilliantly . As we neared Redfish, Stellar of Course announced rafting up the fleet would be troublesome due to strong winds. Remedy announced change of plans and a decision to raft at A frame was made. It was a quick sail to A frame and we anchored to await the fleet. Wind 17-19 knots made rafting a challenge. ![]() Remedy at Anchor Next Silhouette came up on starboard. Sirena waited patiently for things to settle down. Elaine Snowden did a great job handling the helm with assistance docking from Cindy Porterfield. Sirena is skippered by Gina Short. Manana Rafted outboard of Sirena. ![]() The Raft

The Saga began for Remedy....The engine would not start. After checking all systems, it was established that the battery was very, very low on water. Water was added and added. Still the motor would not start. Philip Kropf then tried to use his portable generator to charge the battery....Still the motor would not start. Darkness was approaching, We called Boats US for a tow to home port. Ed and Jerry then went forward and with brute strength pulled up the anchor.(windlass was out) ![]() Purple Sunset We then put up our head sail and slowly headed in the direction of home. Boats US promptly located us. They quickly hitched us to their boat and headed for Kemah. Well.............now we had a designated driver with a flashing red light. Girl Scout cookies and red wine or beer was served for the slow trip home. What a fun trip...What a wonderful WOW cruise. All three of my rules for cruising were observed: keep the water out of the boat, keep the people in the boat, and don't get lost or hit anything. I want to thank all the fellows that showed up in beautiful satin bras. I want to thank all that participated and a special thanks to TMCA members that continue to make our club what it is today.
