Steve's Landing November 4-5
2006
Cruise Leader: Randy Russell
Scribe: Ed Herndon
Saturday Morning was a day meant for Sailing. Wind was out of the
east at about 12 to 18 knots.
The fleet got an early start.. Stellar of Course
and Cool Air
we out and approaching the Ship Channel well before the planned 9:30
departure.
Remedy was
contacted by Flying
Dolphin and asked to tag along into the wonders of East
Bay. New
Life just kind of snuck out quietly
They were probably hiding out at the A Frame Anchorage. Promise, the
only Power Boat on the Cruise, had a late start but promised
to bring Mimosas for Sunday Breakfast.
The Herndon's on Remedy
had Ed Shearer as Guest aboard. He did most of the steering. The Cruise
turned into a Race as soon as the
boats got in view of each other. Everyone was boasting of speeds over
ground in excess of 7 Kts. The current was ebbing at 1-2 knots
at Bolivar during the morning. That helped the speeds. Engines
were silent until the turn at Bolivar for the last 10 miles into the
wind.

Remedy ,
Cool Air,
NewLife, Flying Dolphin, Promise
The group was small enough that we could all fit in Remedy's Cockpit
for Cocktails and Munchies before Dinner. Randy Russell made a
fancy
King Crab Salad that all enjoyed.
Dinner in the restaraunt was followed by Mudslides on Remedy

Next Morning after Breakfast
Ed Shearer, Randy Russell, Robert Reeves, Ron and Elaine Edelman,
Marion
and Ed Herndon, Ed Reh, John and Peggy Allison
Again Randy out did himself with
Eggs Benedict for all. The weather had turned chilly overnight and
thgere was rain in the forecast... It was pretty blustry
as we headed out. We decided over breakfast to Stage a good photo of
the boats cruising in the ICW. Remedy elected to be the lead boat
and take the Photos.
It was hard to go slow enough to get the boats Bunched up.
"Marion, Please put the engine in reverse so the others can catch up"
Ed Requested.
"No way am I going the Sail this Boat in a Race with the Engine in
reverse... They will Just have to Catch up!" she replied.
Even with Jib only, the fleet was still barely closing on us. In
despiration I furled the Jib down to 10%. The boats closed in.

New Life, Cool Air, Flying Dolphin, Stellar of Course and Promise
All in a line before Seiver Cut.

Siever Cut had lots of Pelicans, Gulls and Pipers
The sail back to Clear lake was an exciting mixture of wind
conditions. Again we were rewarded with speeds around 7 knots on winds
from 12 to 18.
The skys were overcast most of the day but the weather warmed up and it
never rained.
It is truly a rare weekend that you get great sailing condions both
going and coming back from Galveston...
Steve's Landing continues to repair and improve their Docking
facilities.. The ICW Boardwalk is completely New.
The food and service is as Good as ever. All had a Grand time.
