Ballunar Festival Cruise  Aug. 27, 2005

Everyone was up early to see the Annual Ballunar Festival at NASA Johnson Space Center.  The winds were less than 5 Mph out of the North. Perfect conditions for a flight.

TMCA came in both Power and Sail boats and many came in dinghies. Dinghies are the best way to see the balloons because you have good manueverability there is nothing to block your view.

Our Party started with a raft up near the Clear Creek Channel intersection with the South Shore Harbor Channel. Remedy got there first and simply drifted aground in 5.7 feet of water. Did not need an anchor.  Alongside came Granola and Last Trade. The dinghy fleet came from Eliza, Lady Sandra, Lucky, Cindy Lynn, and Remedy. That was enough to get the party started. £ Sterling came later and went aground 30 yards away.  Coming as guests aboard were crews of Gugi, Silhouette, Unanimous Decision, and Native Texan. Three more boats joined the raft as the party progressed.

Watchers

Raft

Weekend@Burnies came by with a boat load of  guests from the Seagate complex. They were shallow enough to make it up to Nassau Bay Lake.

Everyone Brought Breakfast Dishes to Share. The Bloody Mary's and Mimosas flowed freely.

Along about 8:15 the big Remax Balloon took off and drifted over Nassau Bay. It was followed about 10 minutes later by a large Toy Soldier Balloon.... But that was all we saw... at first.

I think these must have been the Leader balloons which really plot the wind direction for the rest to follow.

At 8:30 everyone got out on the front of the raft
to watch the show.

By 9:30 it was prett much all over, so we toasted the Baloons with another round of Mimosa's.  It was a great Party!
