ASSOCIATION OF FORMER BASILIANS

Minutes of a Meeting of the Executive
held on Saturday, March 31, 2007

The meeting was called to order at 9:40 in the crypt of the former seminary, by the president, Paul Murphy.  Also in attendance:  Jim Carruthers, CSB, Cy Doherty, Larry Elmer, Alfie Graham, Wayne O
Reilly, and Stan Kutz (recording).

Regrets were received from:  Bob Madden, CSB, Fergal Nolan, Jim Strickland, and Dwyer Sullivan.

1.      Paul opened the meeting with a prayer for the health of all current and former Basilians, and commemorating the deaths of Leo Sands, Bill Stoba, Dave Heath, and Larry Moran.

2.      The agenda was approved as presented.

3.      The Minutes of the meeting of October 14/06 were accepted as circulated.

4.      Larry Elmer reported that there is a group of former Basilians in Texas who get together regularly, and who would be interested in holding a larger event, on the lines of our recent re-unions, in Texas.  It was agreed that we should encourage and help publicize such an initiative, and that some of us would try to attend, especially if it were to occur in the fall, and in the years when there is no re-union planned here.

5.      Dennis Noelke, CSB (current Secretary/Treasurer-General of the order) spoke with us regarding the fact that some of the executive had ceased receiving Basilian publications, while others continued to receive them.  There has been no change in policy, so this anomaly must be due to a foul-up in the mailing lists, etc.  It was decided this is a good time to poll the members as to which publications they actually want to receive, and whether they want to receive them be Email or regular mail.  Once that has been determined, we will also review the amount we should be paying the order for printing and mailing.

6.      Treasurers Report:  We currently have 41 paid-up members, with another 20 or so likely to come in over the course of the year.  After sending US$2000 to the school in Cali, we have $2175 in the bank.  We agreed to add the option of a lifetime membership priced at $150 in the next Newsletter.

7.      Contributions to the Spring Newsletter should be received by Paul by the end of April.

8.      The 2008 re-union will mark the 20th anniversary of these events.  It was agreed that we shall honor Bud Pare CSB on that occasion, as he was largely instrumental in getting the original re-union off the ground.  We shall honor him by designating our contribution to Cali in his name.

9.      The next meeting will be held on Saturday, October 13/07.

10.  We adjourned at 11:00 a.m.
