Paul Murphy Rochester '58

I was in the Basilian novitiate in Rochester, N.Y. in 1957-'58.  After a B.A from the U. of Toronto and three years of teaching high school, I was sent to Paris to study theology for three years.  It was there that I became acquainted with the Christian Movement for Peace and, after ordination in 1968, I founded an eighth branch of C.M.P. in Canada.  In the next twenty years we would have more than a hundred international work camps in Canada, the U.S. and Mexico and would send hundreds of Canadians and Americans to work camps in Europe.  C.M.P. also became involved in social justice issues and, for example, published a series of social justice manuals that are still being used today in high schools throughout the English speaking world.

In 1975 I took an "early retirement" from the Basilians and the priesthood and for the next 23 years taught French and Religion at Cardinal Newman High School in Toronto.  It was during this time that I took an interest in sailing and bought a 37 ft. ketch which has taken me to Bermuda and the Bahamas.

I finally got married in 1992 and Anne's daughter gave us a grandson on Halloween 2002.  Anne's mother moved in with us in the fall of 2003 (cf. photo).

Hello to the Herndons, Goeters and Barrys,
We just received the photo of the party at the Goeters.  That is great news that you are hoping to join us on Lake Erie in July.  We will be making plans for a Toronto visit for you after that.

Here are photos taken today at our place.  We promise we will have better weather in July.

                         Paul
